Client Overview

The client is a self-serve influencer marketing marketplace. It helps brands run the full creator campaign process in one place. Brands can find creators, contact them, book them, pay them through escrow, and track campaign results without leaving the platform. The brand doesn’t position itself as just another creator database. Its real promise is to remove the manual work that makes influencer marketing slow and painful.

The platform serves brands in the USA and UK that need creators, UGC, or influencer campaigns to grow. Its core audiences include DTC and eCommerce brands, consumer apps and SaaS companies, local businesses, hospitality, and events. It also serves lean marketing teams and founder-led businesses that don’t have time to chase creators through DMs. The business runs on a free trial model. Brands sign up, try the platform, and then upgrade to a paid subscription. That makes the trial-to-paid rate the number that matters most.

Before TRooInbound, the platform had no connected growth system. There was no tracking foundation, so nobody could see which channel brought in trials or paying customers. There was no outbound engine to reach high-fit brands directly. Free trial users signed up and then got very little guidance, so many never used the product enough to see its value. The client needed more than traffic. They needed the right brands, a clear path from trial to activation, and a steady flow of paid upgrades. That is where TRooInbound came in.

Their Challenges

Their Challenges

Free trials that didn’t convert
Getting brands to start a free trial was only half the battle. There was no structured path to move trial users toward real product use and paid subscriptions.

Reaching the right brands
Broad, low-intent traffic wouldn’t help. The platform needed businesses with an active, real need for creator marketing.

Relying on one channel
Growth couldn’t depend on a single source. The client needed predictable acquisition from more than one channel.

Little to no trial nurturing
Trial users needed onboarding, product tips, reminders, and upgrade messages during and after their trial. None of this was in place.

No tracking foundation
GA4, Google Tag Manager, and Meta tracking had to be set up from scratch. Without them, trials and paid conversions couldn’t be measured.

No cold outreach setup
Outbound needed its own sending domain, verified data, segmentation, sender authentication, and controlled volume. Bulk emailing would have hurt the brand and its deliverability.

Our Strategies

Our Strategies - How We Helped an Influencer Marketing SaaS Platform Turn More Free Trials Into Paying Customers

  • We built backward from the paid upgrade
We didn’t start with clicks or signups. We started with the goal: a paying customer. Then we worked backward through every step: activated trial, free trial, qualified visitor, and target audience. This kept every campaign focused on revenue, not vanity numbers.
  • We used three channels that work together
Meta Ads brought in scalable paid traffic and retargeted visitors who didn’t sign up. Cold email reached high-fit brands directly. Drip email moved signups and trial users toward product use and paid upgrades. Each channel fed the next one.
  • We targeted brands with clear creator needs
We looked for companies that already showed signs they needed creators. These signs included UGC or creator activity, new product launches, active paid social campaigns, and growth or hiring signals. We built these intent signals straight into our lead qualification.
  • We built a full-funnel Meta strategy
Top-of-funnel ads spoke to the problem. Middle-of-funnel ads explained the product. Bottom-of-funnel ads and retargeting pushed free trial starts. Retention messaging then carried trial users toward a paid plan.
  • We connected product behavior with email
HubSpot workflows reacted to what each user actually did. Key events included account created, trial started, creator search completed, campaign created, creator invited, trial expired, and subscription started. So every user got the right message at the right stage, not one generic sequence for everyone.

Delivery Challenges We Faced and Solved

  • Protecting the main domain
Cold email can damage a brand’s main domain if something goes wrong. We set up a separate outreach domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. We warmed it up slowly before any real sends.
  • Quality over volume
Sending thousands of emails a day would have hurt deliverability and reply quality. We started with about 50 new qualified leads a day. We only scaled up once replies, trial starts, and deliverability looked healthy.
  • Keeping paid users out of trial emails
Nothing annoys a new customer more than an “upgrade now” email after they’ve already paid. We built suppression logic so users who upgraded left the conversion flows automatically.
  • Measuring one funnel, not three channels
Each channel had its own tools and data. We tied Meta, Apollo, HubSpot, and GA4 together, so the team could track every lead from first touch to paid subscription.

Our Planned Solutions

Meta Ads
We set up the Meta foundation from scratch, including tracking, audiences, campaign structure, and retargeting. Free trial starts were the main conversion goal. We also ran campaign-result and testimonial-based proof ads.

Cold Email Outreach
We built a four-email sequence over about 15 days. Each email was personalized by segment and pushed high-fit brands to start a free trial. Replies, positive replies, and trial starts were tracked for every batch.

Signup-to-Trial Drip Flow
A four-email sequence helped new signups start their free trial. It covered onboarding, a no-activity follow-up, reasons to start the trial, and a final trial push.

Trial-to-Paid Drip Flow
This flow guided trial users all the way to a paid plan. It covered trial onboarding, inactivity follow-ups, product-use tips, mid-trial check-ins, trial-ending reminders, post-trial follow-ups, and upgrade messages.

Full-Funnel Measurement
We tracked acquisition metrics like Meta CTR, cost per trial, delivery rate, and reply rate. We tracked funnel metrics like trial starts, activation, and trial-to-paid rate. And we tracked business metrics like paid subscribers, CAC, and new MRR.

The Result

The platform now has one connected growth funnel instead of scattered marketing activities. Every channel is measured by what it adds to paid upgrades, not just clicks or signups.

  • 10 to 15% increase in trial-to-paid conversion
  • 80+ qualified free trials generated
  • 4X increase in trial activation
  • $5,000 in new MRR generated

More importantly, the client can now see exactly which channel brings in paying customers. Budget goes where it works. Trial users get the help they need to see the product’s value. The growth engine keeps getting smarter with every campaign.
